MASSAGE THERAPY AND BODYWORK
Our certified massage therapists are highly-trained professionals who offer a wide variety of hands-on therapeutic services, all designed to maximize your health and wellness. Massage helps to reduce stress, enables your body let go of pain and supports the natural healing process.
Massage
Your visit can be customized to meet your specific needs and preferences and may include the following types of massage:
- Relaxation and therapeutic massage provide basic muscle relaxation, increases circulation and is excellent for stress reduction. Therapeutic sessions focus closely on specific areas of pain or injury.
- Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia that focuses on specific pressure points within the body’s energy system. By releasing blockages, acupressure can often relieve numbness, alleviate chronic pain and awaken the healing process.
- Reflexology is an ancient technique that stimulates pressure points on the feet and hands to restore energy flow throughout the entire body.
- Polarity therapy is a hands-on approach to balancing subtle energy fields in the body. It is especially effective in situations of emotional upset or severe physical trauma where other techniques would be too invasive.
- Cranial sacral therapy uses very light touch to correct imbalances or restrictions in the cerebrospinal fluid and membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Although it uses pressures less than the weight of a nickel, the physical and emotional effects can be far-reaching and profound.
- Myofascial release is an oil-less body work technique that incorporates sustained pressure and movement in the tissue that connects muscle to muscle and muscle to bone. This technique is helpful in alleviating chronic conditions.
- Lymphatic mobilization is a light, rhythmic massage that activates lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulating the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. The technique can be helpful in reducing swelling, detoxifying the body, relieving chronic pain and stimulating deep relaxation.
- Sports Massage is a specialized field of massage that utilizes many techniques proven to be effective for specific athletic needs. It can be used as maintenance, pre-event, post-event and injury recovery. You create each session with your practitioner, so the experience is just what you want and what your body needs on that particular day.
Massages are available in 25, 50, 80 or 110 minute increments, which means actual time on the table. Please arrive 15 minutes early. We ask you to allow 5 or 10 additional minutes in your schedule to undress, dress and talk with your therapist. On your first visit, we’ll ask that you arrive 30 minutes early to complete paperwork, enjoy a cup of herbal tea, change into a robe and relax in our solarium.
Chair Massage
If you are short on time but in need of a massage, try a chair massage in the solarium. Listen to the music and the running water while your practitioner’s hands bring relief to your neck, shoulders, back and arms. Chair massage is available for 10 or 20 minutes.
Children’s Massage
Children have special needs yet benefit greatly from massage and other treatments. We have specialists who are experts in how to work with children’s bodies, from infants to teenagers.
Massage for children can ease stress, encourage relaxation, assist in healing sports injuries as well as improving overall wellness.
Infant Massage with Instruction
Massage can be a great bonding tool for new parents and babies, plus it has been shown to help with all sorts of ailments from feeding problems to colic. Our 80-minute session includes private instruction for up to two caregivers, written reminders, a video of the instruction session and a sample bottle of oil.
Prenatal Massage
What an amazing gift to give yourself and your baby! As the pregnant body adjusts daily to support a growing child, those changes can lead to physical and emotional tension and strain. By relieving stress in the hips, legs, feet and back, a massage can bring greatly needed relief, lift the spirits and improve the experience of being pregnant. You simply won’t want to get off SolSpring’s special pregnancy table.
SPA THERAPY AND CLEANSING
Salt Glow or Sugar Scrub
Indulge yourself with a massage of essential oils, healing salts or sugar, and delightful aromas. As toxins are drawn out of the body, your skin is exfoliated and the lymphatic system is stimulated. You won’t believe how silky, refreshed and alive you’ll feel after doing something so good for you!
Great Lakes Stone Therapy
A full body massage is included in this treatment, which includes warm stones in the practitioner’s hands and placed strategically over your body to stimulate relaxation and natural grounding. All stones have been hand-selected especially for SolSpring from the shores of the Great Lakes.
Mud Wrap
As you relax, your body is covered in a mineral-rich blend of warm French clay. Then you are wrapped in a cocoon of warm towels and blankets, followed by time to relax, a shower and soothing lotion application. It is wonderful as a luxury treatment and helpful for conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Facial
Delight in a full hour of pampering with the luxurious Peace Spa line of skincare products. Spa facials are a popular favorite, but we also offer anti-aging and corrective treatments for conditions like rosacea and acne. Mini facials (30 minutes) consist of deep cleansing, exfoliation OR masque and moisturizing—perfect for a skin pick-me-up.
Colon Therapy
Also known as colonics, colon therapy is a safe, gentle process that uses “gravity flow” to move water in and out of the colon to help get rid of toxic accumulations of bodily waste, excess mucus and gas. A certified colon therapist massages the abdomen to assist with cleansing in this simple but effective procedure that can help relieve chronic pain, constipation and other symptoms of toxicity.
Castor Oil Pack
Castor oil is a gentle cleansing treatment that is often used in conjunction with a colonic to improve overall wellness.
Ear Candling
This treatment, also known as coning or ear funneling, is a gentle, non-invasive way to clear out the ear canal. It involves using a hollow candle to create suction, gently removing earwax and debris, which can cause headaches and/or other discomforts.
Belly Casting
There are amazing changes in the body during the last weeks of pregnancy, and belly casting allows moms to preserve that experience in three dimensions. The torso is gently coated with massage oil, then plaster strips are applied and allowed to dry. After a shower, you can take your cast home to finish as you wish.
Sauna
The sauna at SolSpring is extremely beneficial in assisting with detoxification in the body. The heat stimulates sweating, which penetrates deep in the tissue, releasing toxins. This type of heat stimulation increases blood flow, reduces muscle tension, and boosts your immune system.
Major benefits of the infrared sauna include:
- Cleanses the body internally
- May aid in weight loss
- Effective treatment for colds, bronchitis, asthma, and sinus problems
- Assists with easing lower back, shoulder, neck and muscle pain or sports injuries.
- Excellent way to relax and release stress
- May help with rheumatism and arthritis
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese practice involving the placement of very skinny, sterile needles into the skin at specific points in the body. It is offered at SolSpring by Paul Janson of Kalamazoo Acupuncture. Depending on your specific area of need, needles are placed at specific points to stimulate communication pathways and enhance homeostasis and health. Acupuncture can be used to help ease a wide range of conditions, from stress and pain to metabolic, fertility and digestive disorders. Acupuncture has been shown to provide relief for headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual and fertility issues, back and neck pain, arthritis, TMJ, anxiety and depressions, nicotine addiction, fibromyalgia and stress related conditions.
